8S COMMENTS: Marques del Duero

Having so recently the 8S and having been raised prior to holding so many debates on whether to introduce a rating or not etc. among them one of the assistants, Charles V, made some contributions with which I stayed. Elaborated the idea is to say "why disrupt a voting system if we have more than proven to comment forums and blogs." So what better place than my own blog to comment about what happened at the meeting and the thoughts which I raised the models presented, we will for the first, which I am very familar. Marques del Duero
THE
My boat was the third, I was surprised because I did not think would get a score so high (thanks to all the honor they did me). Do not think he would be so voted for several reasons:
is a very rare model, very rare. Ships are not well. In the line of ships of the 8S like a fly in a saucer of milk and I have seen so rare that the boats are usually not the most liked. The average model is embedded in a series of charts on turning its business modelistic wood, candles, XV at the beginning of XIX and / or living fossils boats (fishing boats with fishing no longer anyone retro yachts etc) kits, canyons with ropes, etc.. The Marquis escapes from all metal, late XIX, no commercial element, waiver of kits with pumps and seductions, little rigging, steel wire ... very rare.
On the other hand there was the fatigue effect in recent years I have been up in the soup with Hussar and the Marquis (and other things ..) so all tired.
So I did not think out big score, score if course, but in a discreet heap along with six or seven more models, hence my surprise to get "podium."
Beyond that, I also thought that my boat was that I liked best of all, but that's a purely subjective assessment and, in the depths, it happens to almost everyone present ships. That said
try to dissect my positive and negative opinions on this model, will then all others.
ME LIKE THIS MODEL.
What I like is the overall aesthetic appearance achieved. I am a devoted supporter of aesthetic program of a boat and I think this is perfectly embodied their achievement. I tried to find an older model beauty (specific and clarified: that the model appears old, made in the early twentieth or late nineteenth century, in any old or aged) and I think I got it in spades. The contrast between the wood and metal I think is very successful.
I love all the hardware in the deck. The guns, bow and in general all the machinery made in brass turning, milling and cutting-off seems to me difficult to see in current models and I think they have a proper finish.
Another aspect which will present the model is its rigging. The rig has a couple of areas I very remarkable, first standing rigging and steel wire on the other hand the motonería.
The widespread use of steel wire for standing rigging on a model of the nineteenth century seems to me a very interesting discovery, I owe to Zapalobaco I found these cables and that it had used previously in Galician galleon. In Castellón saw that many RC modelers came also using similar cables, Kallu friend put me on the track to make a stash of cables in a nearby shop. Use of this steel in the MD seems novel and successful and opens a very interesting way, almost essential in this type of models.
The motonería of this model is considered exceptional and, curiously, went largely unnoticed. All the blocks are hand-made in coral wood, with brass inlaid shield false, your cleavage is highlighted with graphite, most of them have double holes to simulate the step pulley, cold meat hooks and carabiners. I think it's difficult to find blocks of this quality at this size outside of museums (and even within non-current).
NOT LIKE THIS MODEL
Et in Arcadia ego ... As you see I'm not a treaty of modesty, we see the dark side.
The helmet is not up to the model I think is clearly improved. It has a rib which leads to a small lump that breaks the smoothness of the hull, grave sin.
I do not like the transition lines to form the spur, I fear that these lines are not resolved in a perfect manner. Put another way, the line of the hull makes a strange oddities in the transition to the ram.
Although more than one model told me that he liked, I loathe the "checkerboard" in two tones has the tin. As I explained depend on the tin foil is placed on one side or another to take a different tone. This did not appreciate it and no difference in tone between the plates. I do not like.
Another aspect that detracts from the red hue of the hull. I do not like the tone you choose (I think it should be darker) and the general appearance of the paint finish, notice that a parcel is not master.
The elements of the command post poop not satisfy me, I seem somewhat old-scale and are likely to be refined, primarily the helm and the telegraph, it suffers the same defect aft barrel revolver.
I think should have been embossed decorative wrought with more finesse. Godoy said
As well in the main yard 8S was feeling short. And it's short, but that was a considered decision and sought a longer penis would more complex subsequent management of the ship and fire the size of the urn.
I have a real phobia to bases, it seems tedious and avoid it. I think the model is hampered by poverty of the base, seen in row boat in the 8S screamed best and highest pedestal.
I think I'm something both pro and con, but basically these are the features that draw my opinion on my model.
